Parent Newsletter - February 14Boletín para padres - 14 de febrero

FRMA families,

Schools across the region, including Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy, have been impacted by growing rates of illness. It is important that students do their best to remain healthy and prevent the spread of germs that cause illness. We remind all students to regularly wash their hands with soap and warm water, cover their mouths when coughing, and avoid sharing personal items with other people to reduce the spreading of germs.

In certain circumstances, students may have conditions that are important to keep them home from school. These include fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Students with these symptoms should stay at home until feeling better and may not return until:

  • they are fever free without fever reducing medication for 24 hours
  • vomiting free for 24 hours
  • diarrhea free for 24 hours

Razzle Dazzle
East Aurora District #131 is pleased to announce the return of Razzle Dazzle, our district’s faculty and staff talent and variety show on Friday, April 12th, at 7:00 p.m. in the East Aurora High School Auditorium. Come see district teachers and administrators perform. Ticket prices are $3 for students and $5 for adults, with proceeds benefiting the Aurora East Education Foundation. We hope to see you there!

6th Grade Student Course Selection for 24-25
To help plan for the 2024-2025 school year, current sixth grade students are asked to identify their course preferences for their seventh grade year. Please review the choices in the survey linked below and identify your student’s preferences. While we will do our best to assign students their first choice for classes, we reserve the right to place students based on section availability.

There are several important considerations when helping your student make his or her choices:

  • Students will be choosing to take either Art or Spanish as one of their elective encore classes.
  • The courses selected are a two year commitment and will be in place for both the student’s 7th and 8th grades.
  • Spanish covers the high school course Spanish I. Successful completion of the course at FRMA allows students to earn high school credit, and they will then be enrolled in Spanish II during their freshman year at East Aurora High School.
  • All 7th and 8th grade students will also take the four remaining Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses, one per semester, over the final two years.
  • Students also need to identify if they will take band or music.

Please review the survey with your student and submit his or her responses by Friday, February 16th. If you have any questions, please contact the FRMA main office at 630-299-7176.

Familias de FRMA,

Las escuelas de toda la región, incluyendo Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy, se han visto afectadas por tasas crecientes de enfermedades. Es importante que los estudiantes hagan todo lo posible para mantenerse saludables y prevenir la propagación de gérmenes que causan enfermedades. Recordamos a todos los estudiantes que se laven las manos regularmente con agua tibia y jabón, se cubran la boca al toser y eviten compartir artículos personales con otras personas para reducir la propagación de gérmenes.

En ciertas circunstancias, los estudiantes pueden tener condiciones que son importantes para mantenerlos en casa y no ir a la escuela. Estos incluyen fiebre, vómitos y diarrea. Los estudiantes con estos síntomas deben quedarse en casa hasta que se sientan mejor y no pueden regresar hasta que:

  • no tienen fiebre sin medicamentos para reducir la fiebre durante 24 horas
  • sin vomitar durante 24 horas
  • libre de diarrea durante 24 horas

Selección de Cursos para Estudiantes de Sexto Grado para 24-25
Para ayudar a planificar el año escolar 2024-2025, se les pide a los estudiantes actuales de 6º grado que indiquen sus preferencias de cursos para el 7º grado. Por favor, revise las opciones de la encuesta vinculada a continuación e identifique las preferencias de su estudiante. Aunque haremos todo lo posible para asignar a los estudiantes a su primera opción para las clases, nos reservamos el derecho de colocar a los estudiantes en función de la disponibilidad de la sección.

Hay varias consideraciones importantes al ayudar a su estudiante a elegir:

  • Los estudiantes elegirán entre Arte o Español como una de sus clases electivas.
  • Los cursos seleccionados tienen una duración de dos años y se impartirán en los grados 7º y 8º.
  • Español cubre el curso de preparatoria Español I. La finalización exitosa del curso en FRMA permite a los estudiantes obtener créditos de preparatoria, y luego serán matriculados en Español II durante su primer año en East Aurora High School.
  • Todos los alumnos de 7º y 8º grado también realizarán los cuatro cursos restantes del Proyecto Guía el Camino (PLTW en inglés), uno por semestre, durante los dos últimos años.
  • Los estudiantes también tienen que identificar si van a tomar banda o música.
