A group of 7th and 8th grade students from Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy participated in the Illinois Regional History Fair competition at Northern Illinois University in February.
From that competition, 10 groups of students earned superior rankings which qualified them to compete at Illinois State History Fair Competition in Springfield on May 5. The following groups of students earned Superior rankings and/or special awards:
Jasmine Alcala, Nuvia Carerra, Abraham Rios, Unice Astorga and Abigail Callinan won a Superior ranking for their exhibit, “A Man Ahead of His Time: The Fox”
Abigail Barajas won a Superior ranking for her exhibit, “Grace Wilbur Trout”
Edith Delgado, Yaileen Velazquez, Daniella Herrera, Elizabeth Rodriguez won a superior ranking for their exhibit, “Jane Addams: An Advocate for Immigrants”
Davin Colobong, Abraham Campos, Natalie Martinez, Rayna Guerrero won a Superior ranking for their documentary, “Jane Addams”
Maddie Cooper, Lilliana Kenyon, Emma Fowler, Toni Kendrick and Desiree Salas won a 2nd place award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for their exhibit, “Ida B. Wells: The Fight Against Injustice”
