Magnet prepares for History BeeMagnet prepares for History Bee

Congratulations to students in grades 6, 7 and 8 from Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy, who qualified to compete in the National History Bee state regional competition on April 13, held at Aptakisic Junior High School in Buffalo Grove. The National History Bee is a buzzer-based history quiz competition for elementary, middle, and high School-aged students throughout the US.

The Magnet has 26 students who qualified for the History Bee this year, almost double the number from last year. This is the second time they have advanced to the regional competition. The students are led by Ms. Martinez, 8th grade social studies teacher at FRMA and History Bee adviser.

“I think it is important for them to be exposed to these types of academic competitions,” said Martinez. “I love history and have taught social studies for over 15 years in the district.”

Martinez is encouraged by the success of the Pumas, especially after last year’s experience. “This is my second year taking kids to this regional competition, and last year we had five students make it to finals. I am so excited for these kids and how much passion they have for history!”

Our Pumas will be practicing right up to the competition. Best of luck! Students participating include:
