This year, for the first time ever, the East High Chess Team has been named Upstate 8 Conference Tournament champs. The Tomcats took home the 1st Place Trophy at their competition on January 25. Next up was Sectional competition on February 2, where the team registered a 3-1 performance—including a wild, last-second checkmate in Round 4!

Our favorite chess crew is now headed back to State competition, where last year they finished 29th out of 128 state-qualifying teams. The state finals will be held Friday and Saturday, February 14-15, at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL.
