Aurora Poet Laureate Emeritus, Karen Fullett-Christensen, presented a mini workshop and listened to 8th grade language arts students at Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy in celebration of National Poetry Month.
Ms. Christensen explained her role was as poet laureate, shared tips and tricks about reading and writing poetry, and shared some of her original poems. Language arts students participated in FRMA’s 4th Annual Poetry Slam by reading their unique poetry pieces including haikus, cinquains, and free verse. Poem topics included nature, political and social issues, and their own experiences. FRMA 8th grade students continue to look for opportunities for their voices to be heard.
La poeta laureada emérita de Aurora, Karen Fullett-Christensen, presentó un mini taller y escuchó a los estudiantes de artes del lenguaje de 8 º grado en Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy en la celebración del Mes Nacional de la Poesía. La Srta. Christensen explicó su función como poeta laureada, compartió consejos y tácticas sobre la lectura y la escritura de poesía, y compartió algunos de sus poemas originales. Los estudiantes de artes de lenguaje participaron en el 4º Concurso Anual de Poesía de FRMA leyendo sus poemas, que incluían haikus, cincuanes y versos libres. Los temas de los poemas incluyeron la naturaleza, temas políticos y sociales, y sus propias experiencias. Los estudiantes de 8º grado de FRMA continúan buscando oportunidades para que sus voces sean escuchadas.
