District 131 believes that athletics are an integral part of the total educational experience for boys and girls. We encourage all student athletes to broaden their skills, knowledge and citizenship by participating in school-sponsored athletic teams.

Athletics within District 131 are designed to develop the physical skills, positive self-image, confidence, leadership, teamwork and work ethic of student athletes. Under proper guidance, athletics is a powerful educational force, particularly in the development of social, moral and physical qualities of today’s youth.

Cross Country (Middle School, 6-8)

Cross Country is a middle school sport that is open to students in grades 6 through 8. The sport focuses on distance running in preparation for our meets (competitions) with other East Aurora schools. Our team focuses on practicing for personal best and team success. We start our Fall season every August, usually the week before the start of the school year. Contact Mr. Swanson (mswanson@d131.org) for more information.

Elementary Running Club (Elementary School, 3-4)

Running Club is an after-school club open to students in grades 3 and 4. The group focuses on individual achievement and personal joy for exercise as students grow habits that are personally and physically healthy. Running Club is typically held from November to March from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Contact Mr. Swanson (mswanson@d131.org) for more information.

Physical Education (3rd & 4th)

Students in grades 3 and 4 focus on exercising and having fun as we learn about sports (soccer, basketball, floor hockey, & volleyball) and activities (heart rate, throwing and catching, dancing, & summer games) to help us be healthy. Students attend P.E. on a rotating, 3-day basis along with music and art.

Track & Field (Middle School, 6-8)

Track & Field is a middle school sport that is open to students in grades 6 through 8. The sport focuses on sprinting, jumping, throwing, endurance running, and more in preparation for our meets (competitions) with other East Aurora schools. Our team focuses on practicing for personal best and team success. We start our Spring season every March, usually the week before Spring Break. Contact Mr. Swanson (mswanson@d131.org) for more information.

Cheerleading

Does running, jumping, tumbling and cheering sound like fun to you? If so, cheerleading may be the sport meant for you! Even though most cheerleaders are on the sidelines cheering for teams at sporting events, at the highest levels cheerleading is also a sport itself. With participants performing choreographed dances and complex aerial tricks that are extremely physically demanding, cheerleading is a high-energy mix of dance and gymnastics.

Basketball

Basketball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. We have a 6th/7th Grade Teams and an 8th Grade Team.
Future Problem Solvers Bowl – The Mission of Future Problems Solvers Bowl (FPSI), founded by Dr. E. Paul Torrance in 1974 is to develop the ability of young people globally to design and promote positive futures through problem solving using critical and creative thinking. The program prepares young minds to solve futuristic problems (10-20 years in the future) using a six step process. This method of solving problems requires researching the topic, analyzing and writing as a team to complete the solution.

Soccer

We focus on player/skill development while learning to work as a team. We practice after school and offer a free week long soccer camp that takes place over the summer to any student that will be a 6th-8th grader

In August 2013, Public Act 098-0305 took effect. This act requires the IHSA to be given a CPR/AED training video to post on its website so that staff /parents can watch. D131 encourages everyone to watch this important life-saving video.
